It's the time of year for our annual elections! We are pleased to have a slate of wonderful candidates running for the 2015-16 ISPI Potomac Board. If you are a member, you should have received an email with the link to the voting survey. Please vote by April 24, 2015!

At our March program, a panel of presenters (Bill Yaeger, Susan Grunin, Stu Weinstein, and Shelley Kirkpatrick) discussed several important lessons learned, including avoiding jargon when talking with clients, avoiding having a solution in search of a problem, and trying to get clients to understand that training may not solve their problem.

We received valuable feedback after the session and wanted to share some of it so that you know that we heard you and are incorporating your suggestions into what we do:

    • Our typical meal consists of sandwiches and wraps, including several vegetarian wraps, but you told us that there are not enough vegetarian options. We will ask the deli to include more vegetarian wraps in future sessions! Also, starting in July, we will have a volunteer whose sole job is to arrange for the food; we will be sure to pass this along as she looks into different food options.
    • In the past, we’ve assigned a volunteer to greet all attendees, especially those attending for the first time. This role has been unfilled but we recognize its importance in making new attendees feel especially welcome. Our board members will try to fill this role. Of course, if anyone would like to volunteer to do this, we would welcome the help!

It's almost time for ISPI Potomac's annual elections. We are making great progress in filling our slate of candidates but are still looking for a VP of Administration. The role entails attending monthly board meetings (usually 1 hour in the evening via telephone), taking notes that you then post on the chapter's Wiki, and sending action items to the board members. If interested or you have questions, please contact Shelley Kirkpatrick ( by March 19!

Thank you to all members and future members who came to our Mingle last night! We enjoyed great conversation, drinks, and food. If you're not already, please consider getting involved as a board member or volunteer -- we have a variety of ways you can help out! It's a great way to give back to the chapter, make new friends, and build your network and skills.

The highlight of last night's event was the presentation of not one but two Chapter of Excellence Awards to our highly dedicated VP of Finance, Jim Govoni.

Molly Wankel (2nd from right) presented Jim (2nd from left) with his awards, assisted by Shelley Kirkpatrick (far left) and Storm Freeman (far right).

Each year, ISPI Potomac holds elections for the next year's Board and seeks additional volunteers to help keep our great programs running! Please consider "giving back" to the chapter if you feel you get benefit out of our programs, networking, and other services. Here's what you can do:

    • Nominate yourself for a Board role
    • Nominate someone else for a Board role
    • Volunteer -- we have "large" and "smaller" roles!

See Current Leadership and Contacts for a brief description of Board roles and other ways to get involved. Or contact a current Board member if you have questions (or talk to us at our upcoming Mingle on 2/10).
