In performance (HPT) and workforce improvement models, analysis, and assessment is performed by taking into account the organization’s vision, mission, and values. Problem diagnosis and solution identification must be aligned with the organization’s vision, mission, and values, yet, they are frequently overlooked.
Without an understanding of why the organization exists, what it hopes to achieve, and how it plans to achieve it, performance improvement consultants and clients may select solutions that result in further misalignment.
During the September ISPI Potomac meeting, Dr. Shelley Kirkpatrick will explain the concepts of vision, mission, and values and share research that demonstrates the impressive impact of an effective vision statement. She will present new research from her recently published book, Build A Better Vision Statement: Extending Research with Practical Advice.
Dr. Kirkpatrick will discuss how leaders develop, communicate, and implement their vision, mission, and values statements. Her research is based on interviews with 30 CEOs and founders. The findings will help performance improvement consultants customize solutions that will have the maximum impact for their clients. About the Presenter:
Dr. Shelley Kirkpatrick is the founder and CEO of Visiontelligence, LLC as well as a Principal at The MITRE Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that operates research and development centers for the federal government. She also is an adjunct professor at George Mason University. She is an organizational psychologist with more than 25 years of experience developing individual and organizational assessments and designing human capital programs. A former professor at Carnegie Mellon University and The American University, Dr. Kirkpatrick has authored more than 35 articles on leadership, motivation, and related assessment topics in academic journals as well as practitioner-based publications. She recently published Build A Better Vision Statement (2016, Lexington Books).
Dr. Kirkpatrick holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior and human resource management from the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland at College Park, and a B.S. in psychology from Bowling Green State University. Dr. Kirkpatrick is a former President of the International Society for Performance Improvement’s Potomac Chapter. She also is a Master (4th degree black belt) in Taekwondo.
