What do Bugsy Siegel, G. Gordon Liddy and the builders of the Leaning Tower of Pisa have in common with an HPT professional, scrambling to upload a WBT? For better or worse they're all project managers. As HPT professionals we often fail to consider synergy between our HPT world and project management. Whether delivering a WBT, building a casino, executing a dirty tricks campaign, or erecting a slightly crooked tower, all projects are governed by the same limitations. This session compares the commonalities between HPT tasks and PM tasks. Project managers know the triple constraints—time, cost and performance — form the boundaries of the project management universe. During the session, we will review those project constraints (and a fourth one to be revealed during the session!) and will bridge the gap between the HPT world and project management. Discover how to uncover hidden flexibility on projects, find project pitfalls before they become problems, and deliver better results to clients and sponsors. Using case studies, you'll learn to 1) Ask the right questions to identify key project drivers, 2) Frame a project pragmatically to identify its goals, sponsors' needs and possible opposition before you start, and 3) Find creative opportunities to deliver a better project within its original limitations.
